Discussion about ATN / Blackline Optics Night Vision Products

I am looking at buying the ATN Night Shadow or the ATN Night Scout.  The specs on the Night Shadow says the magification is 3X / 5X.  Does this mean it is really 3X and 5X with the doubler attached?

Does anyone have any experience with either of these products?  If so, I would like your opinion.

Hello Ken,

Actually, on the specs for the NightShadow 3x is for 1st generation, and 5x id for 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen. With a doubler attached, the 1st gen will be 6x. As far as pure performance is concerned, the NightScout will have a distinct edge, as it is using 2 tubes, while the NightShadow is lighter weight and more versatile.

Would it be possible to get d-grade tubes put in the ATN OH1
If so how much would you charge for it? Just how bad is the imperfection on the d-grade tubes

Thanks

OH-1 does not have an option of D-grade tubes. The only D-grade I have come across are 2nd or 3rd generation. Their classification is based on cosmetic imperfections (i.e. black spots). They are not bad enough to render the NVD unusable, but they are definately appearent (that's why they generally carry a significant discount).

7900 is a much more advanced model, but you being in UK isn't it a moot point?

hi micheal i already have 7700 which is classed as gen 3 american?
bought it second hand from friend. its good for 70yards with iluminator.
thats on a starlit night.friends new scope with xd4 nvs731is miles better
on clarity +defernition also on a starlit night you can see out to 250metres
clear.thats with just the tube iluminiton gives more contrast+defernition on
the target.another friend has 2 kites both with american gen3 tubes.
one kite has omini iv tube one has top range photonis tube fitted.
the one with american omini tube is good with iluminition but not so good
without? not as good as xd4 without iluminition.the other with photonis
hypergen tube is on par with xd4.in your opinion how much better is 7900
to 7700 is it that much better??as price is similar?as it got better tube?
7900 done with xd4??also is d760 2+better than7700+ 7900thanks

From you response I seriously doubt that what you have in 7700 or what your friend has in the Kite is Gen 3 (Kites were not made with Gen 3). More then likely you have a regular Gen 2 or 2+, which obviously will not compare to XD-4. I have compared XD-4 and XR-5 to current production Gen 3, and while DEP tubes are very good (especially if you have a lot of light), they do not compare with Gen 3, especially in very dark situations. The D-760 Gen 2+ mil.spec. is the best Gen 2+ rifle scope in my opinion. We are currently considering offering them with XD-4 and XR-5 tubes, but those are not available yet.

hi micheal first according to thales who make the kite he was told the device
he had from seriel no that tube was third gen iTT omini iv,apperently
kites have been fitted with 3 gen tubes plus xd4's andxr5's.thales told him
they source tubes from various manufactures.as to 7700 atn are they telling lies?? as it states clearly on there site atn.corp that7700 is gen 3
and non exportable to uk.atn say device has omini3 tube not a patch
on xd4 we find xd4 superb in low light better than kite gen3
thanks again
