ITT F9855A, Inverting or Non-Inverting?

Postby flybyu » Tue Jul 23, 2013 12:25 pm

Hey, I have been trying to find more info on the ITT F9855A intensifier tube. I have seen on this forum where its stated
that the tube is a inverting unit, along with the Omni I to VIII chart. I heard this tube was used in the Baird GP/NVG-1

But when looking at the patent for that unit, Patent 5,867,313 it shows it being used straight through in a Monocular
http://www.google.com/patents/US5867313
However, in the preferred embodiment the ITT model F9855A GEN III image intensifier tube is used

Does anyone know for sure if the ITT F9855A have a inverted or Non-Inverted output?
Thanks!

thats the tube used in the kite weaponsight and is inverting so could be used in a monocular in the same way a 10160 tube is used ( it is an unusual width so not many housings will fit it though - slightly wider than the fat anvis )

Hum, thanks for the info.
I do not know how they invert the image with the 10160 tube?
Do they use a inverting eye piece lens in the monocular version?

Just found a biconvex lens for inverting images, maybe that is what they use?

mx10160 tubes and similar use a twisted fiberoptic bundle (array of fiberoptics that is 180° bended) to invert image

But that is built into the intensifier tube, not mounted external to the unit?

Yes, it is a part of the tube itself.

This is completely wrong. GP/NVG-1 used non-inverting Litton M849 Gen2 tubes.
F9855A/D are tubes for Thales KITE.
Any color you like...
