Tube life

Postby Matsuda » Fri Jun 25, 2010 12:14 am

I heard that the U.S. military required tube life should be more than 10000 hours. So the life of tube made by ITT is more than 10000 hours. Why did U.S. military require more than 10000 hours?

I am not completely sure, but since the Gen 3 tubes came out, the published life was around 10,000 hours, compared to 5,000 hours for a Gen 2 IIT. It can be assumed that the government adopted the industry standard of 10,000 hours just because the manufacturers said that was the tube life, and the government wanted all their tubes to meet that standard.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I understand that the industry standard of 10,000 was the first, and then it was required by goverment.
