Spartan Mk 410

Postby Chick » Sat Feb 23, 2013 12:56 am

I just bought a new Spartan MK410. Compared to my 45 year old AN/PVS-2, the Spartan in a POS. It only amplifies the light about 30% of what the old unit does. Has anyone used the Spartan? What is your opinion?

Don't know the Spartan, but I saw (through) a few PVS-2.
Still impressive, even after 45 years, when it comes to gain, and hard to beat with any commercial 2 or 2+.

The Spartan, and all the other Gen 1 stuff commercially available, (like Yukon, Pulsar, ATN, Newcon-Optik etc) is single stage gen 1.
The PVS-2 and other original Military Gen 1, had two or three stages of amplification, which is why they were so bulky.
So you are not comparing like with like.

The pvs2 3 stage cascade tube as close to gen3 as you are going to get without spending some $$$$. The mk410 needs a strong IR light to work with no moon light, the t100c2 3.4w IR light works for me to 160yds when I use to use it on a mk350. The Ir light with the pvs2 will blow you away, good to 200yds no problem.

Gen1 scopes are like bicycles while triple-stage Gen1+ are like scooters. Buying a new bicycle and complaining that it does not drive like your old scooter is a bit pointless :)
Any color you like...
