A favorite topic on one of the US forums. Nothing over .223 is safe try it at your own risk although almost certain to fail might not with the first or second shot.

As for reloading info I use this site
http://www.adi-powders.com.au/handloaders-guide/

hope it helps

What about a D760 manual gain model this has a mx11769 tube fitted, so i take it this won't handle the recoil then ??
With guaranteed zero retention on large caliber weapons (including .50 BMG class), these systems of choice for Military and Law Enforcement professionals.

Hi Camo304, the discussion refers to PVS14... which is usually not fitted with a weapons grade tube. Also the housing of the PVS14 will not handle heavy recoil. This is all from things I have read and not first hand experience.
The topic comes up regularly on one of the US forums... google is your friend.

To sum it up:

1. Not only the caliber matters, also the weight of the weapon / overall setup plays a role
2. Some scopes are fitted with shock mitigation systems. That cannot be said about a monocular like PVS-14 where the same tube would suffer more.
3. PVS-14 is of relatively fragile nature. Not only the tubes fail, even the housing itself has its limits. The most exposed areas would be
* a) the battery compartment where the lid snaps in (2xAA version only)
* b) tube retainer ring inside the housing which screws on a plastic thread
* c) areas around the four screws holding the housing together
3. Comparing tubes in style 10160 = 10160 is pointless. No two tubes are the same and tubes for rail mounted applications are hand-picked for the job
4. thinfilm tubes are more prone to recoil marks than standard Gen3s.
5. older Gen3s with green phosphor are, again, prone to failures, this time it's the PSU

If you really NEED to do it, then
1. use a PVS with 1xAA battery compartment only
2. get a proper tube. The best choice would be a specialized tube, either F9800N, F9800WG from ITT or M890WS from L3, if you can find one
3. if you cannot find any of these, then get either an MX-11769/UV of OMNI IV/V contract or MX-10160A of any contract.
4. if you really have to use an MX-11769/UV or F9815SLG Pinnacle, at least pick one with halos over 1.25mm
5. definitely avoid aviation grade MX-10160C/AVS-6 or F9800TG/RG, these are great tubes but their <.7mm halo immediately puts them in the 'my future ex-tube' category

6. get a proper night weaponsight and cut the crap with the PVS, bud :D
Any color you like...
