Identify possible early type Fero 51

Postby zoeper » Tue Jul 26, 2016 2:17 pm

Hi guys, I recently stumbled upon a pair of old nv binoculars similar to the Fero 51's
On the Manual: IRH4 single tube infrared binocular, N.V. Opische Industrie "De Oude Delft" - Delft - Holland
Image converter tube: 6929
Magnification: x4
Field of view: 9*
Range of focus: 10m - Infinity
Relative aperture of objective: 1:1.4
Focal length of objective: 63mm
Eyepiece exit pupil:7.0mm
Eyepiece adjustment:+- 5diopter

The Binoculars came in the original wooden box with badly decomposed foam inside.
Rubber on the unit has gone quite hard and the 2 Ni-cd batteries are in a bad state.
Sealed tube with 2 desiccant cartridges, cleaning cloth, leather lanyard and manual included.

I managed to get the unit going after cleaning the battery connector and installing a fresh one. Desiccate has gone pink even in the sealed cartridges, so I dried some out and installed.
I made an improvised IR light source from a lightforce 170 spotlight and some items from around the house. Maximum range at present is +-100yds.

Is anybody here familiar with this particular model?
How does the 6929 tube compare to the better known 6914 used in the later Fero 51's
What would be a good light source for these binoculars out to 330 Yds and hopefully beyond?
Any information and opinions would be much appreciated.
Pieter
