Question? Please help if possible.

If anyone could help I would be greatly appreciated. I've been up all night surfing for an item that I had found a few months back and now eludes me. I believe I had found it while searching some of the night vision sites but it was mmmmm a little different!!! It was an imager but imaging thru solid material like buildings. I believe it was for military use and possible government or police use. Does anyone even know what they are called so I can research it? I do remember they wanted big time money for it ($37G). I just wanted to check it out again and prove to a friend I'm not lying and it really does exist. Please help. mrdrearle.

I think what you're describing is the UWB (ultra-wideband) radar imager? Basically, it works along the same concept as radar imaging in allowing law eforcement/military teams to conduct surveillance through walls (wood, plaster, concrete, etc.).

Several UWB companies are out there, but this is the one that I've heard about the most in recent years... http://www.uwb.org/

Thanks, Brad. After some more surfing with the info you supplied I find myself wondering did I run across a hoax. It seemed to me that the unit I remember was a small older camcorder size type of unit that when pointed in the direction of say a building it would show what looked like a thermal outline of people all at different points inside the building but with just the faint x-ray type of image of the building itself. The info that I found with what you gave me leads me to believe this technology is still in its infancy. It exists but only as a bulky unit that just shows a dot for a person. And not much standoff distance. If a better unit does exist it's only in the movies. Thanks for answering.

The closest to what you're describing is probably something from a movie or tv show. In fact, I recall an old "X-Files" episode where such a unit was used to track Agent Mulder and a weird creature in a warehouse from a distance... it was exactly as you described, a handheld scope that showed an outline of the warehouse with its occupants appearning as thermal images.

To my knowledge, no such technology currently exists, but ya never know?
