Litton MX-10160 specs?

Postby Tellminator » Sat Oct 21, 2017 2:38 am

Hello everybody

I just stumbled over an auction for an used night vision monocular. It's a Mini-14 with a US-Litton Gen.3 MX-10160 tube.
Now I don't know how many hours the device was used (just a few hours from what the auction says) and there is not more info on the tube, except that there is one grey spot.

Now my questions are:
- How much ist this setup worth approximately?
- What are the typical specs for this tube? There are a lot of different specs out there for MX-10160 tubes from different manufacturers and I couldn't find the specs for the Litton MX-10160 (without any letter at the end). Does anybody have those specs?
- Is this a good 3. Gen tube?

Thanks in advance for the replies :-)

Thank you. This is a great list.
Unfortunately the MX 10160 is in two different Omni Contracts (II and III) and in the list of Litton tubes, there is no MX-10160 (only the ones with letters at the end).
But thank you anyways :)

Hi,

Would you have a picture of tube. That would help.
Some time ago there was an influx of "older"ex mod image intensifiers. MX10160 format. They were pretty decent at about omni IV performance. But they were not produced for the USA so would not fall into any omibus contract.

Their price ranged from 500-750 euro's. A new Mini 14 housing goes for about 1600 euro's at the moment. So the whole set about 2100,-

Cheers,

Marc

Hey Marc!
Thank you for your reply.
Here are the 3 pics I have from the 3 different tubes he is offering:

Would be great if you could tell me something about the tubes :)

Up until now he only told me that the tubes fall under the Omni 5 contract and that a missing letter at the end of the MX-10160, dose not mean it's from the early generation of lower Omni's.

Cheers
Marco

Did he send you ir he blank the date code? Probably somewhere around 2000/2001. If I'm not mistaken those tubes came from the UK. Specs were around omni 5. 64lp/mm SNR around 21/22. But as said they are not omni anything tubes.

When they first came available they were sold around €500. In the end as less got available the ran around €750.

There were some gems in that batch but they were all replaced for a reason.

Keep that in mind with the offering

what marc pril said is right , some of the tubes are very good and some are not so good - if you can inspect the unit before buying it , that would be the ideal way.

Those are the pics I got from the auction. He did not send me any pics (but yes, he blacked some info out).
And I have to correct my self, he did not say that they are omni 5 tubes, he just said they have the same specs as omni 5's.
I get that those tubes are not perfect and not like a brand new tube. Most of them have some pepper spots and some even have a bigger spot (those things he declared quite good and even has a "seetrough" picture of every tube). Never the less I think it's a good and cheap way to get a good Gen 3 tube. And since I'm only using my NVG for fun when hiking usw, I'm not in need of an high end spotless picture (every Gen 3 NVG I saw is 1000 euros more expensive or even more).

Thanks for all your help. :D

They are a very good way to get into gen3 nv. Just wanted to make shure you know what you buy. I've seen dealers asking over 1500 for those tube alone.
If the price is right go ahead and have fun.

Cheers
